Winnipeg police have charged a 21-year-old man after a mail carrier was assaulted while delivering mail in Waverley Heights.
Police say the incident happened Thursday afternoon, when a resident confronted the carrier, shoved him to the ground, and attempted to steal his cell phone, which was damaged in the struggle. A passing delivery driver intervened, and the victim sustained only minor injuries.
Officers identified the suspect and arrested him at his home the following day. He faces charges of assault and mischief under $5,000 and was released on an undertaking.
Police noted that mail carriers are legally permitted to enter properties to deliver mail without fear of harassment or assault.
