It’s a panda party in Winnipeg — and this time, the red pandas are taking centre stage.
The Assiniboine Park Zoo is marking International Red Panda Day with a two-day Red Panda Weekend, running Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21.
Guests can enjoy family-friendly activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., including face painting, scavenger hunts, interactive games, photo-ops, and Zoo Chats to learn more about the endangered species.
Native to Asia’s mountain forests, red pandas face severe population decline due to habitat loss, poaching, and climate change. Fewer than 2,500 remain in the wild, according to the Red Panda Network.
“Red Panda Weekend offers a unique opportunity for visitors to connect with one of the zoo’s most beloved species while learning about the critical conservation efforts underway to protect them,” said Laura Cabak, director of communications and public relations at Assiniboine Park Conservancy.
All Red Panda Weekend activities are included with regular Zoo admission. Details are available at assiniboinepark.ca.
