Winnipeg police have arrested a man following a robbery at a sporting goods store on Pembina Highway.
On Friday, employees confronted 34-year-old Alex Vern James Borkowski after he allegedly tried to leave the store with nearly $200 in merchandise. Police say Borkowski pulled a knife during the struggle but was disarmed before fleeing into traffic. No one was injured.
Officers arrested him shortly after 5:15 p.m. following a foot chase in the 800 block of Pembina Highway. Police seized a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine, and say Borkowski gave a false name.
He is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, identity fraud, drug possession, and resisting a peace officer. He was also wanted on three outstanding warrants, including one in B.C. for assault with a weapon.
Borkowski remains in custody and will be escorted back to British Columbia on the outstanding charge.
