A Winnipeg driver has been charged in connection with a fatal collision that killed an 18-year-old pedestrian at Notre Dame Avenue and Cecil Street in early 2024.
Winnipeg police say investigators completed their review of the January 13, 2024 crash, which left the young pedestrian critically injured and later pronounced dead in hospital. After submitting findings to the provincial Crown’s office, one charge was authorized under the Highway Traffic Act.
On Tuesday of this week, officers arrested a 52-year-old man and charged him with driving carelessly causing death. He has been released to appear in court at a later date.
At the time of the collision, police said the pedestrian had run in front of the vehicle, which was heading southbound on Notre Dame Avenue. The driver stopped immediately, called police, and attempted to provide medical aid until paramedics arrived. He remained on scene until police arrived.
