Manitoba Hydro crews worked through Monday to restore electricity to thousands of customers left without power after high winds, rain, and heavy snow caused widespread outages across the province.
More than 12,000 customers were affected by the storm, which brought down trees and damaged power lines in northern, eastern, and western Manitoba. By Monday night, about 4,500 customers were still without electricity, mostly in northern regions.
Manitoba Hydro said additional crews were dispatched to respond to the damage, but some areas remained inaccessible due to poor weather and road closures. Restoration work was expected to continue Tuesday as conditions improved.
“Extended power outages like these are difficult, and we thank customers for their patience and support,” said Manitoba Hydro media relations officer Peter Chura, in a release.
“We are making every effort to restore power as soon as possible, without compromising safety.”
Hydro is posting updates on social media. Customers can report outages online or by calling 1-888-MB-HYDRO (1-888-624-9376).
