Three people are facing multiple charges after a stolen vehicle pursuit in Sandy Bay First Nation that involved shots being fired at police early Monday morning.
Manitoba First Nation Police Service officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on Lake Road at around 4 a.m. Police say the driver fled at high speed, and during the chase, someone in the vehicle fired a gun at officers. No injuries were reported.
The suspects fled the area, prompting a large search involving the RCMP’s Ste. Rose du Lac detachment and multiple other RCMP units.
At around 2 p.m., officers spotted the vehicle north of Reedy Creek on Provincial Road 278. After a spike belt was deployed, the suspects continued to flee despite a flat tire but were soon stopped and arrested near Silver Ridge. Police recovered a loaded firearm from the vehicle.
The driver, 21-year-old Damrey Desmarais, and passengers 22-year-old Ambrielle Beaulieu and 35-year-old Tanita Beaulieu — all from Sandy Bay First Nation — face multiple firearms and property-related charges.
Desmarais was remanded into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
