The federal government is investing $400,000 to expand St. John Ambulance Manitoba’s training facility in Winnipeg.
Monday’s announcement aims to boost the province’s capacity for first-aid training and emergency response.
The funding will add roughly 3,000 square feet to the current building. The upgrade includes a fifth classroom, a new boardroom and multipurpose training area, additional workspaces, and expanded storage.
Officials say the expansion will allow St. John Ambulance to offer more courses, cut down waitlists, and train more workplace first-aiders and community volunteers. It will also enhance support for major events such as the Grey Cup, which Winnipeg hosted this November.
“I backed this project when I served on council and continue to support it as Mayor of Winnipeg because building capacity in organizations like St. John Ambulance strengthens our whole community,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham.
