Portage la Prairie RCMP have arrested two 14-year-old boys after a stabbing outside a local school Thursday sent a student to hospital.
Police were called at around 3:50 p.m. to a parking lot on 3rd Street Southwest, where they found a 15-year-old male student being treated by EMS for a stab wound. He was taken to hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Investigators say the victim was confronted by two male teens, one of whom he knew. During the altercation, the student was assaulted and stabbed before the suspects fled on foot. The school was placed in a hold-and-secure as a precaution for remaining students and staff.
RCMP officers and a police dog conducted extensive patrols and located the two suspects at a home in Portage la Prairie about 50 minutes later. Both were arrested without incident, and the school lockdown was lifted.
The two 14-year-olds are charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting a peace officer, and wearing a disguise with intent. One youth also faces a charge of failing to comply with a release order.
The investigation is ongoing.
