Winnipeg police arrested two people following a bear spray assault at a south Winnipeg gas station on Wednesday.
Police say the incident occurred shortly before 12:45 p.m. near Abinojii Mikanah (formerly Bishop Grandin Boulevard) and St. Anne’s Road, where a verbal confrontation escalated when the suspect allegedly sprayed a 59-year-old man with bear spray. As the suspect returned to a 2021 Toyota Tundra, the driver fled the scene, dragging the victim a short distance.
The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers stopped the vehicle minutes later at Lagimodiere Boulevard and Fermor Avenue. Wilson Hornbrook was arrested after resisting police, while the 24-year-old woman driving was arrested without incident. Bear spray, drug paraphernalia, and about $600 in cash were seized.
Hornbrook faces multiple charges, including assault with a weapon and resisting arrest, and remains in custody. The woman is charged with flight while pursued by a peace officer and was released on an undertaking.
