Manitoba Hydro has fully restored electrical service to all customers in Cross Lake/Pimicikamak after a prolonged outage caused by a downed transmission line.
The utility says repairs were completed Friday afternoon, with full restoration achieved by 1:30 p.m. Power was returned in stages to prevent system overloads and potential equipment damage in the extreme cold. About 75 percent of customers had service restored by late Thursday, with the remaining customers re-energized today.
The community had been without power since Sunday night. During the outage, Manitoba Hydro provided a large generator to supply electricity to the local water treatment plant, along with eight additional generators to power heavy-duty heaters for community use.
More than 20 Manitoba Hydro employees, along with contractors and local support staff, worked in the community throughout the outage to repair the line and safely restore service. Crews will continue monitoring equipment at the Cross Lake substation as operations return to normal.
“We again thank all of our customers in the community for their understanding and patience as we worked through this difficult repair and now begin the re-energization process,” said Hal Turner, Manitoba Hydro’s chief operating officer, in a release.
“We know this has been a difficult time for everyone.”
