Winnipeg police arrested a 29-year-old man after a robbery at a fast-food restaurant and a subsequent disturbance on a transit bus on Thursday.

Police say the incident began around 2:45 p.m. at a restaurant in the 1500 block of Portage Avenue, where a man allegedly demanded money from the till and threatened to shoot employees. The three staff members fled to safety while the suspect went behind the counter but was unable to open the cash register.

Police say the man then entered the kitchen and stole hamburgers and fries that were still cooking before leaving the restaurant. He boarded a transit bus, where officers say he ate the food and attempted to fight passengers. No assaults were reported.

The bus was stopped a short distance away, and officers took the suspect into custody. Police say he was also found in possession of a stolen wallet.

Jonathan Fontaine is charged with robbery and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He was detained in custody.
