A 35-year-old man was hospitalized after stabbing himself during a bail compliance check in Winnipeg on Thursday.
Winnipeg police say officers attended a residence in the 900 block of College Avenue around 6:30 p.m. to check on a man bound by court-ordered release conditions related to pending charges.
While speaking with him, officers determined he was breaching those conditions. Police say the man then armed himself with a knife and stabbed himself as officers attempted to arrest him.
Officers deployed a Taser, disarmed the man, and provided life-saving first aid until paramedics arrived. He was transported to hospital by ambulance and admitted.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has taken over the investigation.
