Blowing snow and poor visibility have forced several highways in southern Manitoba to close on Friday, including the Perimeter Highway.
A yellow advisory remains in effect from Environment Canada as of 12:45 p.m., warning of wind gusts exceeding 80 km/h at times.
“It is recommended that motorists avoid highway travel until conditions have improved,” Winnipeg police wrote on social media.
Police also warned of slippery road conditions.
“Conditions will improve from northwest to southeast through the afternoon and evening hours,” Environment Canada said in their yellow advisory for blowing snow.

Brady Road landfill closed
The blustery weather conditions are also having an impact on garbage and recycling collection in Winnipeg.
The city says the landfill and 4R Depot at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility closed at noon due to inclement weather and road conditions.
“As a result, recycling and garbage collection has also been suspended for all customers,” the city said in a release.
“We expect to reopen the facility and resume recycling and garbage collection on Saturday morning.”
Residents with Friday collection are advised to put their carts back out on Saturday before 7 a.m. if their items haven’t yet been picked up.
