A 32-year-old man is in custody following an alleged armed assault on a security guard at a hotel on Ellice Avenue.

Winnipeg police say officers arrested Cody Harper just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, after responding to an incident in the 1800 block of Ellice Avenue.

Police allege Harper, who they say was intoxicated, entered the hotel lobby around 1:20 a.m. and was asked to leave by a 25-year-old security guard because he was not a guest. During the interaction, Harper allegedly pulled a knife and struck the guard several times while making threats.

The suspect fled but was disarmed by the guard before officers arrived. Police located and arrested him in the hotel parking lot without incident.

The security guard wasn’t injured.
