Winnipeg police have arrested a man after he allegedly threatened Nahanni Fontaine, an NDP member of the legislative assembly of Manitoba.
Police say between July and September 2025, Fontaine received multiple letters from an unknown person which contained racist comments, including a threat of violence.
Police identified a suspect and executed a search warrant at a home in the northwest area of the city on April 18.
A 72-year-old man was taken into custody and is facing charges of criminal harassment and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
The suspect, who wasn’t named, was released on an undertaking.
Police say their investigation is continuing.
Fontaine is the provincial government’s families minister and has been the subject of violence in the past.
Her constituency office was targeted last year by arson and vandalism, along with fellow cabinet minister Bernadette Smith‘s community office during the same time period.
