A 17-year-old Winnipeg boy has been arrested after police say he deliberately drove over six Canada geese in a series of incidents in the city’s southwest, killing several of them.
Winnipeg police arrested the youth at his residence on Monday, following an investigation that linked him to three separate incidents two days earlier.
According to police, a youth driving a white 2024 Subaru Solterra drove over a sleeping goose in a parking lot in the 1-99 block of Henlow Bay at 9:53 p.m. on April 25, injuring it. Just four minutes later, two more sleeping geese were driven over and killed in a nearby parking lot on the same block.
A third incident occurred at 10:17 p.m. in a parking lot in the 550 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway, where two geese were chased from their nest before being driven over and killed.
A surveillance video from one of the parking lots went viral on social media over the weekend that allegedly showed the teen’s actions.
The youth faces five counts of killing or injuring animals. He was released to appear in court at a later date.
Police say Manitoba Conservation has been briefed on the incidents, as Canada geese are a protected species. The investigation is ongoing.
