A Manitoba couple is facing aggravated assault charges after their newborn was brought to hospital with serious unexplained injuries last fall.

On September 9, 2025, Manitoba RCMP were notified after a mother brought her infant son — who was less than a month old — to the Child Protection Centre with unexplained injuries. An examination revealed multiple fractures, lacerations, and bruising. The infant was placed in care following the examination.

Mounties launched an investigation, which included executing a search warrant at the parents’ residence in southeastern Manitoba.

Both parents, a 32-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, have each been charged with aggravated assault. Both were released from custody on an undertaking.
