The City of Winnipeg’s annual water meter reading program returns on Monday, with readers visiting homes weekdays between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Nearly 11,000 residents have gone a year or more without providing a meter reading, according to the city. Officials say going too long without a reading can result in a large bill when an actual reading is eventually taken.
Meter readers will wear a City of Winnipeg uniform, carry a handheld device, and present photo identification upon request. Residents are reminded to ask for ID before allowing anyone into their home. Readers will only knock at front and side doors, not back doors.
If no one is home, a meter reading card will be left with instructions on how to submit a reading by phone or online at winnipeg.ca/submitreading.
The water meter program will run until August 28, 2026.
