A 33-year-old Winnipeg man is facing sexual assault charges after allegedly locking himself inside an Isabel Street cannabis store with a lone female employee and sexually assaulting her.
Police say the suspect entered the store in the 100 block of Isabel Street at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, waited for a customer to leave, then locked himself inside with the 24-year-old employee. She pushed him away and fled uninjured.
The suspect left with an unknown quantity of cannabis products before police arrived.
Officers arrested the man without incident in the 800 block of Main Street shortly before 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
He is charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement, and theft under $5,000, and was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with a probation order. He was released on an undertaking.
