A Killarney man has been charged in connection with a suspicious death that began as a vehicle fire at a Carman self-storage compound on Monday.
Gordon Blaine McTaggart, 44, was charged with second-degree murder Thursday and remanded into custody. A 36-year-old woman, who was arrested alongside McTaggart on Wednesday, was released without charge after investigators determined she had no involvement in the homicide.
The investigation began in the early hours of May 25, when Carman RCMP responded to a vehicle fire inside a self-storage compound on 2nd Street Northeast at around 1:15 a.m. Officers found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames and later located a deceased male inside. An autopsy confirmed the 52-year-old Carman man died as a result of a homicide.
Mounties are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information to contact the Carman RCMP detachment at (204) 745-6389 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
