The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have traded for the return of quarterback Dru Brown, sending Ottawa their first-round selection in the 2027 CFL Draft and a conditional second-round pick in 2028.
In exchange, the Bombers receive Brown along with a second-round pick in the 2027 draft that Winnipeg had previously traded to the Redblacks.
Brown, 29, originally signed with Winnipeg on March 11, 2020, though that season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He made his CFL debut in 2021 and spent three seasons with the Bombers, appearing in 38 games and going 2-1 as a starter while helping the club win the 2021 Grey Cup.
In 2023, his final season in Winnipeg, Brown set a CFL record for most touchdown passes thrown without an interception in a season, with nine.
His negotiating rights were traded to Ottawa on Jan. 18, 2024. After signing with the Redblacks as a free agent, Brown became the team’s starter for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
