A 42-year-old man has died after being shot by Winnipeg police during a family trouble call in Linden Woods Monday night.
Police were first called to a residence on Avon Gate at approximately 8:42 p.m., after a man reported concerning behaviour from his adult brother. The caller said he had been locked out of the house by his brother.
The man called police again at 9:58 p.m., saying he was still locked out and his brother was now screaming at him through a window.
Officers arrived on scene in a marked cruiser at 10:23 p.m.
At 10:35 p.m., officers were confronted by the man after he exited the home armed with an edged weapon, police said. An officer fired their gun, critically injuring the man.
Police say officers immediately provided emergency medical care, and a neighbour also rushed over to assist.
The man was transported to hospital in critical condition and later died of his injuries.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has taken over the investigation.
