Four people were taken to hospital on Friday, some with critical injuries, after a serious multi-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Main Street.
Winnipeg police responded to the area of Main Street and Jarvis Avenue at 5:30 p.m., where a passing officer was already providing first aid to the motorcycle operator.
According to police, a BMW 328i with two occupants and an Indian Challenger motorcycle carrying an operator and passenger were travelling southbound alongside each other at a high rate of speed when a Ford Escape turned into the path of the vehicles. Police allege the Ford clipped the rear of the BMW, sending it into a building on the west side of Main Street, while the motorcycle struck the rear of the Escape, throwing both riders from the bike. The BMW also struck a second SUV carrying two occupants before coming to a stop.
Three patients were transported to hospital in unstable condition and one in critical condition. All were stabilized, though the motorcycle operator suffered potentially life-altering injuries, police said.
Police believe speed was the primary factor in the collision.
