A suspect has been arrested and charged after allegedly stabbing a man who was trying to help a woman experiencing a suspected overdose near Jubilee Avenue and Osborne Street.
Police say the 51-year-old victim was attempting to assist the woman at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday when a man known to the woman approached and stabbed him in the upper body.
The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition, while the woman was also taken to hospital for medical attention. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service personnel notified police of the incident.
Officers located the suspect in the 400 block of Brandon Avenue just before 11 p.m. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. Officers seized two knives as evidence.
Dwayne Jeffery McDonald, 31, has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. He was detained in custody.
