The City of Winnipeg will begin a targeted fogging program Friday evening in response to high numbers of Culex tarsalis mosquitoes in several areas of the city.
The province issued the fogging order under the Environment Act, which requires municipalities to fog when the risk of West Nile virus transmission via Culex tarsalis mosquitoes is high.
The program will start at 9:30 p.m. Per the provincial order, buffer zones are not in effect within city limits during the program.
Subject to weather conditions, the fogging will target the following insect management areas:
- IMA 22 — Fairfield Park, Richmond West, Waverley West, Waverley Heights, Bison Run, Bridgwater Centre, Bridgwater Forest, Bridgwater Lakes, Bridgwater Trails, Prairie Pointe, South Pointe
- IMA 23 — Whyte Ridge
- IMA 24 — Linden Ridge, West Fort Garry Industrial
- IMA 43 — North Inkster Industrial, Tyndall Park
- IMA 44 — Burrows-Keewatin, Inkster Industrial Park
- IMA 48 — Inkster Gardens, Mandalay West, The Maples
- IMA 51 — Amber Trails, Rosser-Old Kildonan
Residents can view a daily program schedule online and register for public service announcements. The city says it will release the upcoming schedule at least eight hours in advance.
The program will be carried out using DeltaGard 20EW.
