A Calgary man is facing drug trafficking charges after RCMP seized 34 kilograms of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop near Portage la Prairie.
Mounties pulled over a rented SUV on Wednesday afternoon as part of a traffic stop. After speaking with the driver, officers called in the Manitoba First Nations Police Service and its drug-sniffing canine to assist. The police dog detected narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle that turned up the drugs, believed to have a street value of roughly $850,000. Samples have been sent to Health Canada for confirmation.
The driver was arrested at the scene without incident.
Gurinder Singh, 33, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and has been remanded into custody.
