A 36-year-old man is in custody after Winnipeg police say he pointed what appeared to be a handgun at someone during an argument early Monday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., officers responded to the area of Portage Avenue and Sherbrook Street for a report of a man pointing a handgun. Officers quickly found the suspect nearby and arrested him without incident.

A search of the man and his belongings turned up two airsoft handguns and a butterfly knife.

Police say the suspect became involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown person, then took out what appeared to be a handgun, pointed it at the victim and fled. No injuries were reported.

Jaycee Gerald Brown is charged with a number of weapons, breach of probation and firearms-related offences.
