A 41-year-old man is in custody after Winnipeg police say he set fire to wooden pallets outside a business in the Weston area.

Police responded at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday to a business in the 1400 block of Dublin Avenue. The owner received an alert from the property’s surveillance system, watched a suspect set the fire on a live video feed and immediately called police.

Officers arrived shortly after and found wooden pallets stacked against the building on fire. They located the suspect nearby and arrested him, seizing a matchbox, lighter and torch. Officers contained the fire until Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews fully extinguished it.

Shawn Andrew Grisdale is charged with arson, possessing incendiary material and failing to comply with a release order. He was detained in custody.
