Flash Photographic Festival
October 13, 2017 12:00 AM - October 31, 2017 11:59 PM
Twenty hand-printed traditional darkroom photographs by photographer Colin Corneau are on display the month of October in the atrium of Red River College’s Exchange District Campus (160 Princess St.) as part of the Flash Photographic Festival.
The long decline of printed news often focuses on those who create its content, but behind every edition is highly-skilled people literally putting ink to paper — the pressmen who tend to the huge, thunderous machines that create the news you hold in your hands each day.
The men at the Brandon Sun were responsible not only for that paper but also the Globe and Mail for over two decades. In 2010, as outside forces crept in, their positions were eliminated and the printing presses silenced.
The images in “Pressmen” — 20 hand-made, traditional darkroom black and white documentary photographs — represent the final months of ink, steel and paper and are printed and shown for the first time since being made seven years ago.
