The Sioux City Explorers snagged a win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park Thursday night in a 5-0 contest.
The Explorers’ Taylor Jordan, pitched a complete game, earning a three-hit shutout and no walks. Jordan battered the fish, retiring the final 19 players who faced him. Winnipeg Goldeyes starting pitcher Kevin McGovern walked one player and struck out five. After allowing five earned runs in seven innings, Brandon Bingel relieved McGovern. Bingel pitched two scoreless innings.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes may have lost Sunday’s game 4-2 to the visit Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, but there was still a reason to celebrate.
Outfielder Reggie Abercrombie struck his 802nd base hit, breaking the American Association’s all-time hits record previously held by David Espinoza. Abercrombie tied Espinoza’s record of 801 in the bottom of the first, hammering a two-run homer over the left-field fence.
