Mayoral candidate Jenny Motkaluk believes there’s a better way to improve Winnipeg Transit, but bus rapid transit isn’t the way.

The business consultant said Friday she would stop ongoing construction of BRT if elected mayor this fall, saying buses are running empty to under-used BRT stations.

Transit Union Pitches Plan to Finance Electric Winnipeg Bus Fleet

The union representing Winnipeg Transit employees has a plan to finance additional electric buses in the city’s fleet.

The proposed financing partnership would rely on a pay as you save (PAYS) model, with the province providing the city with an interest-free loan to cover the difference in capital costs of electric buses.

Winnipeg Transit drivers held a memorial Wednesday for their former colleague who was killed while on the job one year ago today.

Irvine Jubal Fraser was winding down his shift on February 14, 2017 when he was fatally stabbed by a passenger at the University of Manitoba.
