Rafael dos Anjos Beats Robbie Lawler by Unanimous Decision at UFC Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – Rafael dos Anjos claimed his third straight victory as a welterweight with a unanimous decision over Ruthless Robbie Lawler in the headliner of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night card in Winnipeg.

The 33-year-old Brazilian, a former lightweight champion, won the five-round bout by scores of 50-45 by each of the three judges.

WINNIPEG – Corey Crawford said it was the best game the Chicago Blackhawks have played this season. Teammates Patrick Kane and Nick Schmaltz agreed.

The trio played a big role Thursday as the Blackhawks extended their season-high winning streak to four games with a 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

UFC fighters are keeping in shape at a downtown Winnipeg gym before their big fight at Bell MTS Place on Saturday.

Ryan Sourriseau, owner of Snap Fitness at 323 Portage Avenue, says a number of the fighters have been coming from across the street to train and relax at his facility.

WINNIPEG – Mathieu Perreault viewed his 100th NHL career goal as a lucky tap rather than a highlight-reel milestone.

The Jets forward scored two goals and added an assist to help Winnipeg halt a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.

WINNIPEG – Connor Hellebuyck was relieved to finally shut the door on an opponent this season.

The Winnipeg Jets goaltender got his first shutout of the season with a 21-save performance in a 5-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday and shared the credit with his high-flying teammates.

WINNIPEG – Captain Blake Wheeler predicted the best is yet to come for the Winnipeg Jets, but he wasn’t sizing up championship rings.

With a 7-4 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights Friday, the Jets moved into first place in the NHL’s Western Conference with 36 points (16-6-4).

WINNIPEG – Captain Blake Wheeler celebrated a rare milestone with style on Monday.

Playing his 500th game for the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers franchise, Wheeler scored once and added a pair of assists in a 7-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Linemates centre Mark Scheifele and left winger Kyle Connor also each had a goal and two assists as the Jets scored seven straight goals to rebound from a two-goal deficit.
