The Winnipeg Goldeyes may have lost Sunday’s game 4-2 to the visit Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, but there was still a reason to celebrate.

Outfielder Reggie Abercrombie struck his 802nd base hit, breaking the American Association’s all-time hits record previously held by David Espinoza. Abercrombie tied Espinoza’s record of 801 in the bottom of the first, hammering a two-run homer over the left-field fence.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes now have their own honourary street designation outside of the ballpark where they won their most recent American Association championship.

Winnipeg Goldeyes Way was unveiled by Mayor Brian Bowman Thursday at Shaw Park, renaming Portage Avenue East from Main Street to Westbrook Street after the baseball club.

After weather delays forced the Fish to postpone their Saturday and Tuesday games against the Wichita Wingnuts, Winnipeg toppled the best-of-five series Wednesday night in front of a packed Shaw Park.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes have tied their best-of-five playoff series 1-1 against the Wichita Wingnuts, triggering a two-game set at home this weekend in their journey to clinch the American Association Championship.

The Fish on Thursday beat the Wingnuts 7-1 in game two on the road, forcing a return to Shaw Park on Saturday and Sunday.
