Professional wrestling is returning to Winnipeg this fall with the WWE Live Holiday Tour.

WWE superstars will pack Bell MTS Place on Saturday, December 8 as WWE champion AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe in a No Disqualification Match.

Kurt Angle, Jake ‘The Snake’ to Visit Winnipeg

A pair of former professional wrestlers are coming to the city for autograph signings.

Kurt Angle and Jake “The Snake” Roberts will both make appearances in Winnipeg over the next few months.

Angle will greet fans on Saturday, April 19 at the Garden City Shopping Centre from 1-4 p.m. Roberts will be at the same venue on Saturday, May 24 from 3-6 p.m.

Tickets to each of the meet and greets are $30 and go on sale Saturday, April 5 at Primos Collectibles inside the mall.

The price of a ticket includes an autograph of any item of your choice and a photo opportunity. Pictures of each wrestler will be available to be signed for an extra cost.

The WWE returns to MTS Centre on Friday, March 7.

The WWE is making a return to Winnipeg after a lengthy hiatus.

WWE Live Road to WrestleMania will invade MTS Centre on Friday, March 7 with a packed superstar lineup. Scheduled to appear are John Cena, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, The Wyatt Family, Big Show, Kane, and others.

Tickets range in price from $22.75 to $107.75 and go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 18 through Ticketmaster. A WWE and MTS Centre presale begins Thursday at 10 a.m.

Former Wrestler Mick Foley Appearing in Winnipeg

Mick FoleyA retired WWE wrestler known for his multiple quirky personalities is still making fans laugh with his antics.

Mick Foley is bringing his comedy show to Winnipeg on Wednesday, February 19 when he performs at the Park Theatre.

The 2013 WWE Hall of Fame inductee, 48, is best known as his characters Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love. He retired from the sport last August.

Besides being a comedian and former wrangler in the squared circle, Foley is also a New York Times best-selling author.

Tickets for the show go on sale Monday, January 13 at 10 a.m. online. Prices are $30 each or four for $100.

University of Winnipeg Wesmen wrestling coach Adrian Bruce has been named as a coach for the Canadian National Cadet FILA (U18).

The coaches will be overseeing the team competing at the Pan American Wrestling Championships in Medelin, Columbia from August 9-11.

“To be selected for such a role within our National Team Coaching Program is a privilege,” Bruce said in a release. “I am looking forward to working with the other national team coaches and athletes in achieving our goals for this event.”

Canada will be sending both a men’s and women’s freestyle team to the event.

Wesmen Wrestling Sign Mitchell Berenz

University of Winnipeg WesmenThe University of Winnipeg Wesmen have signed Mitchell Berenz to the men’s wrestling team.

The 18-year-old will compete in the upcoming 2013-2014 Canada West season and comes with more than 12 years experience in the sport.

Berenz is a recent graduate from Arrowhead Union High School in Hartland, Wisconsin, where he most recently wrestled with the Askern Wrestling Academy/Ringers Wrestling Club.

“The recruitment of Mitchell Berenz to our men’s program will undoubtedly add some much needed depth to our middle weight classes,” said head coach Adrian Bruce. “Having significant national and international experience I feel will allow him to enter into the CIS and be very competitive in his freshmen year.”

Cockrell, Macaulay Named Bisons’ Athletes of the Year

University of Manitoba BisonsManitoba Bisons volleyball player Rachel Cockrell and hockey player Blair Macaulay have been named 2012-13 Bison Sports Athletes of the Year.

The awards were handed out Saturday during the Bisons annual Brown and Gold Year-End Banquet held at the U of M.

Cockrell, also named the team’s MVP, is the 21st player to be named with the honour from the volleyball program, which continues its dominance in the annual accolades.

Team MVP Macaulay marks the 16th time that a men’s hockey player has won the yearly honour and in the last nine seasons, four men’s hockey players have been picked as the top Bison male yearly honour.

On Thursday, the University of Winnipeg announced women’s volleyball player Ozana Nikolic and men’s wrestler Briston Brenton were chosen as the 2012-2013 University of Winnipeg Wesmen Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

Wesmen Wrestler Receives Two Prestigious Scholarships

A University of Winnipeg wrestler has been named the recipient of two prestigious scholarships.

The Wesmen’s Brock Munro first received the National RCMP Scholarship, which is given out to students who’s parents are active members of the RCMP.

The second scholarship Munro received was the Wicihitowin Foundation Justice Studies Scholarship. The award is made possible by the Regina Police Service and the F Division of the RCMP in Saskatchewan.

“It is my hope and expectation that his (Brock’s) commitment to excellence in all aspects of his life will provide a path for many in his community to follow for years to come”, said Wesmen rrestling head coach Adrian Bruce.
