Winnipeg speedskater Cindy Klassen missed the cut Tuesday in Calgary during the 1,000 metre. She came fourth with a time of 1:16.47, which crushes her chances of clinching another five medals at the Vancouver Olympic Games.

Klassen told reporters she would have been lucky to qualify for the 1,000 metre, and that particular race hasn’t been strong for her.

Kristina Groves from Ottawa placed first in the qualifying round with a time of 1:15.74.

But it hasn’t been all bad news for Klassen. She’s still heading to Vancouver after the 3,000 metre earlier in the week.
