They’re the hottest commodity at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games — the elusive red mittens.
The woven hand warmers have been flying off the shelves at HBC stores and Olympic retail shops since the games began, but now that they’ve been stamped with the official celebrity seal of approval, finding a pair is a challenging task. That is, unless you’re Stephen Colbert (right), Wayne Gretzky or U.S. VP Joe Biden.
Over 1 million units have been sold so far, but the retailer is projecting 3.4 million pairs of the mittens to be sold before the end of the games. The $10 item helps to fund Canadian Olympic athletes.
At last check, The Bay in downtown Winnipeg had a few pairs left. Zellers stores have been sold out for over a week.
