If your long weekend plans include hanging around the St. Andrews Lock and Dam at Lockport, officials are warning you to be careful.

Portions of the dam will be removed due to high water levels and recent heavy precipitation. This is necessary to maintain normal summer water levels in the area.

Waters below the lock and dam, where the flow is sill very powerful, can become extremely dangerous without warning. Boaters are warned to stay away from this area at this time.

Those wanting to fish will be unable to, as gates leading to the shore will be closed. Once water levels recede, the public access gates will reopen.

Caution is advised when navigating in the area of the dam, and the Red River in the vicinity of Lister Rapids, due to fluctuating water levels and debris.
