After the uproar caused by 1290 CFRW switching to an all-sports format in late September, oldies music could return to the Winnipeg radio market on another CTV-owned frequency.
Rumour has been circulating of a format change on CURVE 94.3 after the holidays. The station recently flipped to strictly Christmas music, which is a clear indication changes are on the way. Prior to that move, three staff members were let go, including the program director. A day later, the remaining on-air staff was put in limbo as far as their future roles were concerned.
Sources tell ChrisD.ca the station will likely become FAB 94.3, a classic hits station to fill the void left by CFRW.
The registration on Friday of both the Fab943.com and Fab943.ca domain names by CTV further proves the move. See the WHOIS information.
In the latest fall radio ratings provided by BBM Canada, CURVE 94.3 had a 2.9 share, down from 4.0 the previous year. A format change at this point looks inevitable.
