A new exhibit is set to open shortly at the Manitoba Museum, just in time for the busy summer months ahead.
Reeds and Wool will feature the unique decorative reed screens made by Kyrgyz women for yurts, their circular felt tent homes.
Visitors will get to learn about the traditional Yurt homes, which are decorated in numerous designs, colours, and weaving techniques. Showcased in the exhibit are richly textured 19th and 20th century reed screens, carpets and fibre weavings for traditional furnishings in Yurt homes in Kyrgyzstan, located in central Asia.
The exhibit will be held in Festival Hall from June 29 to September 5, 2011, and is included free with general admission to the museum.
