A  25-year-old female cyclist was taken to hospital late Monday afternoon after being struck by a semi-trailer truck.

The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. on Notre Dame Avenue at Keewatin Street.

Items could be seen strewn along the roadway as police officers secured the scene.

Police say the woman was riding her bike on the sidewalk when she entered the roadway and was hit by the semi making a westbound turn onto Notre Dame from Keewatin.

Westbound lanes of Notre Dame between Keewatin Street and Bannatyne Avenue were blocked off to traffic as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash.

The cyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to guarded condition.
