An iconic Manitoba eatery is marking 75 years with a weekend celebration July 13-14.

Half Moon Drive In in Lockport will be celebrating its historic landmark with entertainment, fireworks, family fun and other activities all weekend long.

The Henderson Highway establishment first opened its doors in 1938 and operated until 1983, when it temporarily closed to build a more modern restaurant closer to the St. Andrews Lock and Dam.

Known for its famous hot dogs, Half Moon also has a reputation for serving up freshly-grilled hamburgers, shakes, homemade fries, and both hard and soft ice cream treats and sweets.

Celebrations also include a food-eating challenge by Peter Czerwinski (aka Furious Pete), who will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for eating the most hot dogs in a short period of time.

Winnipeg Blue Bomber alumni Chris Walby, Stan Mikawos and Troy Westwood will also make appearances.
