Decaf Coffee DatesA new locally-created book is sharing the wise stories and wisdom of seniors in the community.

“Decaf Coffee Dates: Stories and Insights from Winnipeg Seniors” is the creation of Red River College student Larissa Peck, who created the book as part of a project in the Creative Communications program.

“Young people may need to be reminded of the value of face-to-face conversation and that there is a whole generation of older people who are not only available to us, but, as I learned through this project, absolutely more than willing to share their stories, insight, knowledge and experiences with us, if we only seek it out,” Peck said.

The book features 10 stories from Winnipeg seniors ranging in age from 70 to 100, who Peck has interviewed over the past six months.

Besides the book, the experiences Peck has encountered along the way in shaping her Independent Professional Project (IPP) have been shared on her blog.

The public launch of Decaf Coffee Dates is Wednesday, March 5 at McNally Robinson Booksellers at Grant Park. Snacks, coffee, and some wholesome stories will be provided, along with music by Luke Jacob Thiessen.

The cost of the book is $20 plus tax through McNally Robinson, or $20 flat from its author directly by e-mailing decafdates@gmail.com.
