Environmentalist and broadcaster Dr. David Suzuki will receive an honourary Doctor of Science from the University of Winnipeg this fall.

Suzuki has dedicated his life to protecting the planet and has become a household name for his longest-running CBC TV series “The Nature of Things.” He is also co-founder of The David Suzuki Foundation, one of Canada’s leading environmental organizations.

“Dr. Suzuki is an environmental champion who understood much earlier than most that our planet is a fragile and interconnected place,” said Dr. Annette Trimbee, UWinnipeg president and vice-chancellor.

Suzuki will receive the honour on Friday, October 16 at 9:30 a.m.

“A Conservation with David Suzuki” will take place Thursday, October 15 at the Metropolitan Theatre at 7 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the local chapter of the BlueDot Movement and the  Harvest Moon Society.
