Bisons’ Sawatzky-Koop Named to Canada West Hall of Fame

University of Manitoba BisonsA former University of Manitoba Bisons women’s volleyball player has entered the Canada West Hall of Fame.

Michelle Sawatzky-Koop is the first Bisons volleyballer to receive the honour.

Sawatzky-Koop played for the Bisons from 1988 to 1993, helping Manitoba win national titles in 1990, 1991, and 1992.

The Steinbach native is a graduate of the U of M’s School of Music and is also an accomplished pianist, a mainstay on Steinbach radio, a coach of youth volleyball, and a regular supporter of the sport in the province.

Sawatzky-Koop is the fourth Bison to be named a Canada West Hall of Famer. She joins women’s soccer alum Desiree Scott, the 1968-70 Vanier Cup-winning Bisons football teams, and football alum Israel Idonije as Bisons that have been inducted into the Canada West Hall of Fame.
