WINNIPEG — Property owners along the Red River can now apply to the province for compensation related to the recent operation of the Red River Floodway.

The province activated the gates to the floodway on October 9 and lowered them November 7 in order to control water levels following a devastating fall snowstorm.

Eligible applicants who suffered property damage or economic losses can apply to the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization online at ManitobaEMO.ca or by phone at (204) 945-3050 or (toll-free) 1-888-267-8298.

The province is working to determine the extent of artificial flooding.

While water levels within the city of Winnipeg are dropping, outside of the Perimeter, Highway 204 was closed between the Selkirk Bridge and Highway 212 on Wednesday due to rising levels on the Red River.
