The Winnipeg Goldeyes have clinched their 21st playoff appearance in franchise history, ensuring a winning record for the 25th time. The decisive win came after a 7-2 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs on Saturday.
With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh inning, catcher Kevin Garcia‘s hit to first base was misplayed, allowing Jake McMurray to score. Right fielder Roby Enriquez followed with a double, bringing Garcia home and giving the Goldeyes a 3-1 lead. Shortstop Ramon Bramasco then singled to drive in Enriquez, extending the lead to 4-1.
In the eighth inning, Enriquez struck again with a two-run double, increasing the lead to 6-1. Although Kansas City responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, the Goldeyes added another run in the ninth, sealing the game at 7-2.
Starting pitcher Mitchell Lambson earned the win, allowing just one run over seven innings. The Goldeyes will play the rubber match against Kansas City on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. CDT, with Zac Reininger taking the mound.
The Goldeyes return home on Monday, August 26, for their final regular season homestand against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Fans can find ticket information at Goldeyes.com and should watch the team’s social media for playoff ticket details.
