Brandon’s 18th Street will see $9.7 million in provincial funding for resurfacing.
Premier Wab Kinew and Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor made the announcement Tuesday in the Wheat City.
“Speeding up the reconstruction timeline to get shovels in the ground showcases our commitment to creating vibrant communities, ones where both residents and businesses have the infrastructure they need to prosper,” said Kinew.
The project will address deteriorating conditions on the busy thoroughfare by milling the current surface and applying new layers of pavement between Aberdeen and Rosser Avenues. Originally scheduled for 2028-29, the timeline has been accelerated due to rapid deterioration from the recent spring thaw and public safety concerns. The resurfacing project will begin next week and is expected to be completed by October.
Brandon Mayor Jeff Fawcett welcomed the accelerated timeline, noting the improvements will enhance mobility for residents and visitors alike.
“As a vital corridor in Brandon, we are pleased to see 18th Street receiving the attention it deserves,” Fawcett said.
