The Winnipeg Goldeyes surged past the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with a 10-1 victory in Game One of the American Association West Division Championship Series on Monday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
After a slow start, Winnipeg responded to an early 1-0 deficit with ten unanswered runs, securing a commanding win.
Fargo-Moorhead struck first when Drew Ward‘s base hit drove in Ismael Alcantara in the bottom of the first inning. However, Winnipeg quickly tied the game in the second inning with Dayson Croes’ sacrifice fly, followed by a two-run home run from Ramon Bramasco, putting the Goldeyes up 3-1. Winnipeg extended their lead with two more runs in the third inning and continued to pile on, chasing RedHawks starter Orlando Rodriguez after just 2.1 innings.
Winnipeg’s Joey Matulovich earned the win, pitching six solid innings and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out seven.
The Goldeyes will look to continue their momentum when the series moves to Blue Cross Park on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., with Zac Reininger set to start for Winnipeg against Fargo-Moorhead’s Colten Davis. Tickets are available at Goldeyes.com and the Goldeyes ticket office.
