This past weekend, Winnipeg Comiccon set a new attendance record, with more than 35,000 fans converging at the RBC Convention Centre.
The event, designed for all ages, brought together enthusiasts of superheroes, video games, anime, horror, and science fiction for a weekend filled with collectibles, celebrity meet-and-greets, and fan-focused activities.
Attendees lined up to meet stars like Vikings’ Alexander Ludwig, Lord of the Rings’ Elijah Wood and Billy Boyd, Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s James Marsters, wrestling icons Rob Van Dam and Trish Stratus, and A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Heather Langenkamp. The Star Wars universe was represented by Denis Lawson, Diana Lee Inosanto, and Alan Tudyk, while other notable guests included The Walking Dead’s Chad Coleman, Teen Wolf’s Colton Haynes, and Firefly’s Summer Glau.
Voice actors brought an animated vibe, featuring Veronica Taylor (Pokémon), Charles Martinet (voice of Mario), and Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid), among others. Artist Alley was also packed with talent, from Marvel’s Mark Brooks to The Walking Dead’s Michael Golden.
A highlight of the event was the Saturday Masquerade, with cosplay from amateur creators competing in elaborate costumes. Attendees also enjoyed live-action roleplay with Underworld LARP, gaming from Game-itoba and Manitoba eSports, and charity-driven activities by the Winnipeg Ghostbusters and Peg City Power Rangers.
Next year’s Winnipeg Comiccon runs from October 24 to 26, 2025.
