Winnipeg’s first residential snow-plowing operation of the season will begin Wednesday night.
The city will use approximately 300 pieces of heavy equipment as part of the clearing efforts.
A residential parking ban will be in effect Wednesday, December 18 at 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday, December 21.
The city is plowing snow from sidewalks and pathways on main routes today and will start plowing snow from Priority 2 streets tonight at 7 p.m.
The winter route parking ban will be suspended for the duration of the residential ban.
Drivers may park overnight on designated winter routes from 7 p.m. tomorrow until 7 a.m. on Saturday.
Residents can check their snow zone letter in advance online or by downloading the Know Your Zone app.
Vehicles parked in violation of the residential parking ban may receive a $200 ticket ($150 if paid early). Enforcement officers will hand-deliver tickets.
SAFE Roads Manitoba has launched a public awareness campaign, reminding drivers to do their part by steering clear of snow-clearing equipment and crews.
“Keeping Manitobans who work on or near roadways safe is a team effort,” said Chris Lorenc, president and CEO of the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association and chair of the SAFE Roads Manitoba committee.
“By giving snow-clearing crews the space they need to work, we’re not just ensuring safer roads—we’re protecting the people who make winter travel possible.”
